International labour mobility has increased significantly as companies operate across borders and employees perform work in multiple countries. If the work abroad is temporary, the person may be covered by Finnish social security laws under certain conditions.
Temporary work abroad includes, among other things, being assigned/ posted abroad, going on business trips or doing remote work abroad. To be covered by Finnish social security while working abroad, an A1 certificate showing that the person is covered by Finnish social security is needed.
If a person works temporarily in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or a social security agreement country, they need an A1 or equivalent certificate.
Finnish Centre for Pensions is the authority that provides A1 certificate. Online services require strong authentication, and with Suomi.fi mandate, Econia can act on behalf of the employer. Online services are smooth, easily monitored and usually fastens the application process. Certificate of pendency is available after submitting the application, and the A1 certificate is available online after it has been granted.
Please let us know in case you are planning to post employees from Finland to other countries and would need assistance in A1 certificate applications!
